The features of a forge furnace

A forge furnace stands out in three ways: the heat source, the insulation, and the temperature range. Most models run on gas and reach temperatures up to 1,450°C, more than enough for steel, iron, and bronze.

A thick ceramic lining holds that heat in, so your furnace comes up to temperature faster and uses less gas. That makes a furnace like this the foundation for knives, tools, and ornamental ironwork, and it grows with whatever you make.

Many furnaces have one or two doors on the sides. Close them and the heat stays inside for small work; open them and you can slide longer workpieces straight through the furnace. So the furnace helps determine what you can take on: fine detail work or long decorative bars.

Our range of forge furnaces

Our range of forge furnaces covers every level: your very first furnace, as well as models that will serve you for years. You can choose between gas-fired and electric models, in various sizes and with one, two, or three burners.

Gas forge furnaces

Gas forge furnaces are suitable for forging and knife making and heat up quickly. They run on propane and maintain a stable temperature, which matters when you want to work evenly.

In this group you'll find models from Becma and Nargesa, among others, with one to three burners and doors on one or both sides. Farriers and knife makers often choose them for their even heat.

Electric forge furnaces

Electric forge furnaces heat your workpiece without an open flame and at a constant temperature. That's handy if you work indoors or need a fixed temperature level, for example when hardening steel. You connect them to 230V or 400V, depending on the model.

What should you look for when buying a forge furnace?

When buying a forge furnace, pay particular attention to the number of burners, the size, and the insulation. One burner is enough for small hobby work; if you want to heat larger workpieces or several at once, go for two or three burners.

Base the size on your largest workpiece, so your furnace doesn't turn out to be too small later on. Finally, check the insulation: a well-insulated furnace holds the heat longer and therefore uses less gas per session.

Also think about what you'll need alongside the furnace. A suitable gas burner with a pressure regulator is essential for gas models, and with a pair of forge tongs and gloves you can work safely right away. If you want to melt metal rather than forge it, take a look at our melting furnaces.
