Features of an air hammer
An air hammer consists of a C-shaped frame with a built-in anvil, on which an electric motor drives an air cylinder that brings the upper block down. Because that drive is electric, you'll also find the machine listed as an electric forging hammer.
The air cushion in the cylinder gives you an even, easily controlled blow, so you keep more control over your workpiece. The most important specification is the ram weight: the weight of the striking block.
In our range, that ram weight lies between 25 and 75 kg, with a striking energy between 0.27 and 1.0 kJ and between 210 and 250 blows per minute. Motor power ranges from 3.0 to 7.5 kW, on three-phase power of 3 x 400 volts.

A light air hammer of around 25 kg strikes the fastest and is pleasant to use for knives, tools and finer decorative work. Models around 40 kg form a versatile middle class, while the heavier machines between 55 and 75 kg deliver the punch for rough work and thicker material.
Every air hammer comes with a pair of upper and lower dies, a motor protection switch and an emergency stop, mounted on a steel base. Which air hammer suits your smithy?
Which air hammer suits your smithy depends mainly on your heaviest workpiece and your power connection. For lighter work such as hooks, fittings and small tools, a lighter machine is enough. If you want to draw out larger pieces or shape thicker steel, choose a higher ram weight.
Also take the location into account: an air hammer weighs between 1,040 and 2,800 kg and requires a flat, sturdy surface and three-phase power. Also reserve space around the machine so you can move long workpieces freely.
