Graphite Casting Molds

Graphite casting molds are the standard for anyone who wants to produce repeatable castings. Graphite withstands temperatures above 2,000°C and releases the solidified metal cleanly, giving a smooth finish. The molds keep their dimensional stability, so you cast the same bar or shape time after time. Each model is designed around the shape of your metal, not for single use.

This is high-density, fine-grain graphite, popular for jewelry, coins and bars that you work on further afterwards. In this range, the capacities run from 1.8 ml to 500 ml.

For detailed work you pick a small cavity; for bars and larger pieces, a more spacious mold. A 500 ml mold, for example, casts a substantial bar, while cavities from 1.8 ml upwards are suitable for fine jewelry work. There are also multi-part casting molds that combine different sizes in one go.

Choose the right casting mold based on the type of metal

You choose a casting mold based on the metal you are casting. Graphite handles high temperatures, which means you can cast gold, silver, copper, brass, bronze, tin, zinc and aluminum in it. That way you work with one type of casting mold for virtually your entire range of metals, and you don't need a separate mold for each metal.

You first melt the metal in one of your crucibles and then pour it into the casting mold. Match the capacity of the mold to the amount of metal you melt, so that you have enough in one go to fill the cavity.

Metals with a higher melting point call for a mold that handles heat well, and graphite is excellent for that. The same mold also works for low-melting metals such as tin and zinc. Because graphite doesn't deform with repeated casting, your bar comes out the same size every time.

Square casting molds

Square casting molds are mainly used for casting bars and ingots. The straight, square cavity gives a bar with flat sides, which is easy to stack and store. That's why square molds are popular with anyone casting precious metal into bars.

Besides a square shape, there are cavities in other shapes for coins and small jewelry. A square bar is also easier to store than an irregular piece of metal. Choose the shape that suits the end result you have in mind.
