The crucible range at Parrot Shopping comes in two materials: ceramic and graphite. Which one you choose depends on the metal you're casting and how much you melt at a time.

Ceramic crucibles

At Parrot Shopping, ceramic crucibles range from 0.6 to 8.5 litres, across sizes A4, A8, A15, A25 and A50. Ceramic withstands temperatures up to 1450°C and holds larger melts steadily.

These crucibles are made for heavier casting work in larger quantities. The thick wall retains heat well, so your metal stays evenly molten while you pour.

The increasing sizes match your melting furnace: an A4 fits in a compact furnace, while the A25 and A50 are intended for larger casting sessions.

Graphite crucibles

Graphite crucibles come in smaller sizes, between 0.13 and 0.35 litres. Graphite conducts heat quickly and tolerates temperatures up to 3500°C, far higher than ceramic.

That makes a graphite crucible the logical choice for precious metals and for small, targeted melts. The fast heat-up saves you gas or electricity during short sessions, for example when remelting silver scrap or casting a single ring.

Which crucible size should you choose?

You choose the right crucible size based on how much metal you melt at a time. Allow plenty of room: molten metal needs space and you never fill a crucible to the brim.

For a single ring or a small figurine, a 0.13-litre graphite crucible is enough. If you're casting larger pieces, go for a ceramic A15 or A25. Anyone regularly melting several kilos at once should choose the A50 with its 8.5-litre capacity.
