Description
Talc powder is used in metal melting for three purposes: lubricating, talc coating, and dusting. It also prevents rust from forming on metal surfaces. We supply it in a half-kilo package.
Choosing the right type
Talc comes in various forms, including powder and dust. If you're using it to fuse metals together, choose a type that doesn't spark on contact with metal. That's no minor detail: sparks can cause a fire or explosion on the spot.
With the wrong type of talc, your projects can turn out weak or brittle. So read the label before you buy.
Applications
Beyond melting and welding, talc powder has broader uses. Jewelers use it to dust off work surfaces. Coat metal objects with it before working on them, and they won't stick to each other or to your hands.
It also works in the hinges of ornate metal candlesticks: the layer of talc keeps rust at bay. And when hanging wallpaper, it helps dust off surfaces so the paper adheres better.
