Description
With these number punches, you can stamp numbers into metal, plastic, wood or leather. Think of a product code, a serial number or a year in a workpiece. The numbers are 10 mm high, so the impression stays clearly legible even on larger parts.
Use and application
The punches have the number on one side. The other side is the striking face, where the hammer lands.
- Hold the punch in one hand and place it straight on the object.
- Take the hammer in your other hand.
- Strike the back with moderate force, and the number will be set into the material.
You can stamp the numbers 0 through 9 with them. The set does not include a separate 9: simply turn the 6 upside down for that.
Material and hardness
The hardness of the punch must always be greater than that of the workpiece. If it is lower, the punch will be damaged more quickly and the number will not fully penetrate the material.
This set has a hardness of HRC 58-60, or 120 kg/mm². That is more than enough for metal, and therefore automatically for softer materials as well. Always check the hardness of the material you are going to work on.
What else you need
A striking hammer with a good handle helps you work more accurately. Finger protectors make it easier to hold the punch straight and keep your fingers out of the hammer's path.
