Description
Five millimetres of letter height is the size for fine stamping work: small workpieces, knife blades, fittings and parts where a larger impression simply won't fit. The set runs from A through Z and also includes the & symbol, all made from hardened steel.
Use and application
Each stamp has the letter on one end and a striking face on the other. You can work metal, leather, plastic and wood with them.
- Place the stamp squarely on the surface you want to mark.
- Hold it with one hand and take the hammer in the other.
- Strike the back with moderate force so the letter is pressed into the material.
This is how you add a company name, initials or a short text to a product.
Typeface
The letters are produced in DIN 1451. At this small size that matters even more. At 5 mm, fine serifs would close up in the material and make the impression illegible.
Material and hardness
The hardness is HRC 58-60, or 120 kg/mm² at the tip of the letter. That value determines which materials you can work with. The stamp must always be harder than the workpiece, otherwise it will be damaged and the impression will stay shallow.
For metal, that is the upper limit you need. Leather requires a lower hardness, but a set that can handle metal naturally meets that requirement too.
What else you'll need
A hammer with a comfortable handle makes the work more precise. A finger guard keeps the stamp upright and your fingers out of the hammer's path. At this small size, that benefits the result as well.
