Stamping letters A-Z 10 mm

With this set of letter punches you can stamp an impression into metal, leather, plastic or wood. The letters are 10 mm high, which gives a clearly legible impression on workpieces where you want to be able to read the text from a distance. The set contains all letters A through Z, plus the & symbol.

Use and application

A letter punch has the letter on one end and a striking face on the other. You hold the punch with one hand above the workpiece and strike the back with a hammer using your other hand.

1. Take the punch you need from the set and place it upright on the material.
2. Hold the punch with one hand and pick up the hammer with the other.
3. Strike the striking face with moderate force, so the impression is made in the material in one go.

This is how you put a company name, a maker's mark or a text into a product.

Material and hardness

A punch should always be harder than the workpiece. If it isn't, the punch gets damaged and the impression doesn't come out properly. These letter punches have a hardness of HRC 58-60, or 120 kg/mm² at the tip of the letter.

For metal, that hardness is why the punches keep their shape and the impression stays sharp. For leather, such a high hardness isn't strictly necessary, but a set that can handle metal works just as well on leather. That way you don't have to buy anything extra later if you switch materials.

Typeface

The letters are in DIN 1451, a sans-serif typeface with a clean design. That reads well in metal, where fine serifs quickly close up when struck.

What else you'll need

Besides the punches, you'll need a hammer with a good grip to work accurately. Finger protection is a sensible addition: you place the punch in it, use it to hold the punch upright and avoid the risk of hitting your fingers.
