Description
With this refractory concrete you can build and repair forges and gas furnaces that are exposed to extreme heat. It withstands temperatures up to 1,650 °C, stores heat well and tolerates fluctuating temperatures. Borax and other forge welding fluxes do not attack it.
Application
The concrete is hydraulically bonded and is mixed with water, about 0.06 litres per kilo. Mix for roughly five minutes. After that you have about twenty minutes of working time before it starts to harden.
For good heat storage, keep the layer thickness between 10 and 20 mm. In heavily loaded areas it may be thicker.
Curing and drying
Leave the concrete in the formwork for one to two weeks, protected against frost and draughts, so that it dries slowly.
Firing comes next. Heat up the furnace or forge slowly on the lowest flame. As soon as steam escapes, put out the fire and start again once the steam has gone. Repeat this until no more steam is released, then raise the temperature step by step to the maximum operating temperature.
Safety
- Protect the product against moisture during storage
- Do not inhale the dust and use respiratory protection if ventilation is insufficient
- In case of skin or eye contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water
