Description
This version melts up to 10 kg at temperatures reaching 1,450 °C, suitable for gold, silver, copper, aluminium, brass, bronze and tin. The chamber measures 200 by 250 mm and the furnace weighs 15 kg.
Burner and air supply
The burners are made of 304 stainless steel and operate between 1 and 25 PSI. They arrive pre-set to a neutral flame, after which you fine-tune using the choke.
That choke determines how much air mixes in with the propane. That's what a forge furnace is all about: without an adjustable air supply you won't reach top speed, because every working pressure calls for its own air-to-gas ratio.
Fuel
The burners run on butane, propane, a butane and propane mix, and LPG. They do not work on natural gas.
Lining
Compared with the 4 kg model, the insulation is heavier duty. The furnace and the door contain 2 inches of ceramic wool, the floor 3 inches, with a base of ceramic brick. That retains the heat longer with the larger melting mass.
