Description
This portable melting furnace is built to melt up to 20 kg of brass and reaches a temperature of approximately 1,450 °C, or 2,642 °F, on propane. That lets you work with gold, silver, copper, aluminium, brass, bronze and tin, among others. The model comes as a complete set: you only need to supply a gas cylinder yourself.
Burner and air supply
The furnace has two DFC burners with a combined output of 360,000 BTU. The nozzle is designed to last longer and to increase burner efficiency. The burners are made of 304 stainless steel.
On top of each burner is a choke that controls how much air mixes with the propane during combustion. This adjustable air supply is the feature to look for in a melting furnace. Without a choke you won't reach the maximum temperature, because every working pressure calls for a different air-to-gas ratio.
The burners are pre-set to a neutral flame, after which you fine-tune with the choke. The working pressure range is between 1 and 25 PSI. Fuel consumption is low.
Fuel
The burners run on butane, propane, a butane and propane mixture, and LPG. They do not work on natural gas.
Lining
The inside of the furnace and the door are lined with 2 inches of ceramic wool. The floor has 3 inches of ceramic wool and the base consists of ceramic brick, which takes the heaviest load.
